An additional reminder that the ASCA field trip that was scheduled for this Saturday has been moved to next Saturday Feb. 22 due to bad weather predicted for this weekend. The new date for the field trip is Feb. 22. You can still participate in the Great Backyard Bird Count this weekend. Stay dry and warm by counting birds in your backyard and at your feeders this weekend and submitting eBird checklists. Our trips are open to everyone, no matter what your birding level is. You don't have to be an ASCA member to participate. You can leave a trip at anytime. I have extra binoculars to loan out if you don't own binoculars. Please feel free to contact me off-list if you have any questions. Come join us! Karen Holliday ASCA field trip coordinator February 22Stuttgart Airport, Stuttgart, ARMeet at 7:30 a.m. at the Prothro Junction commuter lot located on the southeast side of I-40 East at Exit 157. Turn right at the intersection then immediately turn left into the commuter lot. We should arrive at the airport around 8:30 a.m. for anyone who would like to meet us there. Lapland and Smith’s Longspurs, Short-eared Owls, Sprague's and other Pipits, plus various sparrow species will be our target birds. Dress in layers; bring gloves, be prepared for wind and cold temperatures. Knee-high boots are essential for walking through the Aristida grass. On the drive back to Little Rock, we’ll scan the open fields for flocks of geese and ducks.
Subject: RESCHEDULED! ASCA February field trip I have been closely watching the weather for this Saturday's ASCA field trip to the Stuttgart airport. I am CHANGING the field trip to Saturday, February 22nd. With a 94% chance of thunderstorms, lightning, wind, and heavy rainfall predicted for this Saturday, February 15 in the Stuttgart area, it is not safe to be out walking in the flat open fields at the airport.
