Barrow's Goldeneye (Bucephala islandica) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Feb 11, 2025 10:36 by Penny Principe
- San Luis Obispo Creek Lagoon, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.7364416&<ll...>,-120.7364416 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S213036693 - Media: 2 Photos
- Comments: "Continuing female. Continually diving every 2 to 5 seconds and a bit backlit so not the best views today from the northern side of the lagoon. The head never as erect as seen on past visits but still showed a more prominently steep forehead than the Common Goldeneyes and a mostly yellow bill with a dark nail and mottled dark color at the base of the bill which appeared slightly shorter than the Common Goldeneyes."
Marbled Murrelet (Brachyramphus marmoratus) (2)
- Reported Feb 12, 2025 09:54 by Tom Edell
- Cayucos, Coronado St Beach Access, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.8805&<ll...>,-120.8805 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S213022960 - Comments: "Two beside each other were well offshore and required the scope eyepiece adjusted to 60X. Before zooming in on these small birds I thought they might be phalaropes. The small black and white bodies dispelled that impression. I could see the dark crown that extended down to the eyes and the white collar that extended up onto the nape from the white breast. The white scapulars and sides of the rump were clearly visible but I could not make out the bill. I could tell that the short tail was pointed up from the rump. The flanks looked all white."
