Last night around 9:30 I heard a new sound, probably an owl I thought, but I did not recognize it as a call I have heard before. It was far across the street. Then 15 minutes later I heard another call, one I recognized from a great horned owl. This came from across the street, much further to the east and I have heard this call from this area many times in the past. Maybe the first unrecognized call was a female or immature owl? It did not have the deep “hoo hoo hoo” of a great horned. Just a short hoot about every minute or so. Both calls repeated for approximately the next 20 minutes. Cold night, light snow falling.
