Dear CT Birders,
Well, the ninth annual Hartford County Big January of Birding is in the books. It was a particularly cold January and everyone worked hard to see the birds -- but what good luck many folks had! I pulled the final data from eBird this morning. If you did not use ebird, made your list private, or have an update to the eBird listing, please email me no later than Feb 5th.
Hartford Audubon Society will be publishing the names of the winners in each award category, but not the numbers of species seen by individuals, except for the top winner who will receive the Big January award at the HAS annual meeting in May. We will also award the Golden Grebe in May to the member who saw the most notable species in January.
All folks who met the minimum number of species in each category will receive a beautiful certificate from HAS. These are Adults (60), Weekend Warrier Adults (50), Teen (ages 11-17, 35) and Youth (ages 4-10, 25). And if you're not an HAS member, I also need your email address and mailing address so I can contact/mail you. We'd love to publish as many names as possible for our birding community!
thank you all,
Sarah Faulkner HAS Past-President and frozen birder
