Meg and I spent a day and a half out in the Parker and Havasu Landing areas on Thursday and Friday. The highlight of the trip was a Curve-billed Thrasher found at the River Lodge Resort. The bird was on the lawn at the registration building. Elsewhere there weren't a lot of birds beyond grackles and blackbirds, but we did find a good variety of birds, including Crissal Thrasher, Abert's Towhee, and Gila Woodpeckers. The Gila Woodpeckers were together at the intersection of Parker Dam Rd. and the MWD/Black Meadow Landing Rds. There were large numbers of waterfowl above and below the dam to look through. I couldn't find a Barrow's Goldeneye among the 150 or so Common Goldeneyes there.
We visited Big River at dusk, trying to catch the Sandhill Cranes leaving their Arizona fields and heading west to the river or wherever they roost. We saw about 15 of them but couldn't tell for sure where they landed. We needed to be further south.
