The feeders have been busy. Lots of juncos, house sparrows, and house finches. Good numbers of white breasted nuthatches, tufted titmice, chickadees, blue jays, and mourning doves. Most of the year, we only have Carolina chickadees, but some of these could be black-capped. We only have a few white-throated sparrows - fewer than other winters. We always have a few cardinals and Carolina wrens. Woodpeckers have been steady - downy and red-bellies are in every day with an occasional hairy and flicker. The surprise was two male red-winged blackbirds yesterday. They usually return around the end of February, but this is way early for them. Do they know something we don’t know - like an early spring maybe? We’ll see what Punxsutawney Phil has to say on Sunday!
