Slightly downward pointing bill, compact build and shorter-necked compared Western Grebe, slight peak at the rear of the crown, dark cap, paler face with some white. No obvious color seen on bill and no white noted on neck. A possible second bird was nearby a few minutes later, but appeared browner and seemed to have less white in the face. A bird farther back, that I saw briefly, may have been the bird I originally saw, but it dove before I could confirm the species. So I suspect an adult and subadult, but include only one here."
