Barrow's Goldeneye (Bucephala islandica) (1)
- Reported Jan 24, 2025 13:30 by Kevin Zimmer
- San Luis Obispo Creek Lagoon, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.7364416&<ll...>,-120.7364416 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S210552047 - Comments: "Continuing female. When relaxed and not constantly diving, it showed the characteristic steep rise to the forehead and puffy rear crest, relative to nearby female Common Goldeneye (which looked bigger-billed, with a lower, more triangular profile), and with an almost entirely yellow bill. All of the many Commons there had either entirely black bills, or, a mostly black bill with a yellow tip. Photos to follow."
Tropical Kingbird (Tyrannus melancholicus) (1)
- Reported Jan 24, 2025 08:55 by Kevin Zimmer
- Laguna Lake, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.6903817&<ll...>,-120.6903817 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S210550265 - Comments: "Continuing. Diagnostic twittering songs/calls confirmed ID before we were even close enough to check morphological characters. The bill was distinctly longer than in Cassin’s or Western kingbirds; the yellow of the belly extended clear to the throat, lacking the contrasting white chin and darker gray chest and sides of the head; and the tail, which was forked, was browner than in WEKI, and lacked the white outer rectrices of that species, as well as the Buffy-white terminal fringes of Cassin’s. Definitive photos to follow."
Sagebrush Sparrow (Artemisiospiza nevadensis) (1)
- Reported Jan 23, 2025 14:56 by Barry Langdon-Lassagne
- Calhoun, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.724767&<ll...>,-119.724767 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S210432741 - Media: 5 Photos
- Comments: "We originally marked this bird as a Bell's Sparrow, but upon viewing photos taken in the field, and consulting with some experts, are now convinced the identification of Sagebrush Sparrow for this bird. The significant streaking on the back, lack of strong malar, and paler gray cap all point to Sagebrush Sparrow."

Seen on Colima Street off James Way. Noticed it because of its large size and the yellow belly. It had a large heavy bill like a teenager not an Oreo. The bill was dark, not light or white. No vocalizations to help identify it But the coloration size and Bill. I need the bird as a female and a teenager. No camera was available to take a picture."
