It started off cold (upper 20's) and partly cloudy, turning mild (50ish) and windy on the bird survey today. The lakes and wetlands were mostly frozen over with a thin layer of ice that thawed by mid afternoon. 61 species were found. Highlights include 2 male Cinnamon Teals, Gray Catbird, White Ibis, and Neotropic Cormorant. Here is my list for today: Wood Duck - 24 Gadwall - 545 American Wigeon - 6 Mallard - 1251 Cinnamon Teal - 2 males (alternate plumaged) Blue-winged Teal - 3 Northern Shoveler - 162 Northern Pintail - 125 Green-winged Teal - 227 Lesser Scaup - 1 Ring-necked Duck - 380 Canvasback - 6 Bufflehead - 11 Hooded Merganser - 18 Ruddy Duck - 31 Pied-billed Grebe – 15 Neotropic Cormorant - 1 Double-crested Cormorant - 1 Great-blue Heron - 9 White Ibis - 11 (imm.) Black Vulture - 4 Turkey Vulture – 64 Bald Eagle - 2 adults Northern Harrier - 2 Cooper's Hawk - 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk - 1 Red-shouldered Hawk - 3 Red-tailed Hawk - 3 American Coot – 415 Killdeer - 10 Wilson's Snipe - 6 Red-bellied Woodpecker - 1 Hairy Woodpecker - 1 Northern Flicker - 4 Eastern Phoebe - 15 Blue Jay - 1 American Crow – 6 Fish Crow - 2 Carolina Chickadee - 4 Tufted Titmouse - 2 Brown Creeper - 2 Winter Wren - 1 Sedge Wren - 1 Marsh Wren - 2 Gray Catbird - 1 Northern Mockingbird - 1 Brown Thrasher - 2 Eastern Bluebird - 1 Hermit Thrush - 1 American Robin - 1 Yellow-rumped Warbler - 6 Common Yellowthroat - 1 Savannah Sparrow - 1 Fox Sparrow - 4 Song Sparrow - 8 Swamp Sparrow - 5 White-throated Sparrow - 12 Dark-eyed Junco - 15 Northern Cardinal – 12 Meadowlark species - 3 Red-winged Blackbird – 80 Good birding!
