I got my best looks ever of Black Scoters today. The adult male truly is (except for its bill,) all black. I got to watch the bill movements of these scoters as they called. I was not familiar with their call. Also, one or two adult male Black Scoters suddenly surged forward comically. It was for maybe ten yards. Eleven duck species:
Brant 58 Black Scoter 20 one loose group, one tight Surf Scoter 8 White-winged Scoter 8 Common Eider 500 taking Tim E.'s word on it. They were so spread out, some distant NORTHERN COMMON EIDER 1 ? very pale head and neck; very close in Greater Scaup 8 F.O.Y.
