Hello, fellow birders! The ninth annual Mega Bowl of Birding in CT is scheduled for next weekend and all birders are welcome to participate. We have about 15 teams signed up already, but there's room and time for many more people to register for the event. As stated in previous messages, it is a celebration of birds, birders and birding in CT. It is a fun and friendly event. The idea is to go out in your town, county or in a circle with a 5-mile radius that includes your residence to see how many bird species you can find. You can go out alone, but it is more fun to go out with a few of your birding friends. We come up with fun names for our teams and go birding for as much of the day on Saturday as we wish to. Teams are awarded points for each species observed. Prizes are given out for various accomplishments. Teams select a CT-based birding or conservation organization to which a donation is made in the team's name. The more points your team amasses the greater the don ation! The birding can take place anywhere in the state of CT (my apologies for not updating the announcement that went out today from the New Haven Bird Club that suggested that the birding is limited to New Haven County). All participants are welcome to attend the celebratory dinner on Sunday that will begin at 5 pm at the Kellogg Environmental Center in Derby. Contact me at <closcalz...> if you want to participate in the Mega Bowl this year. Thanks and good birding!
