- Comments: "(34.433813,-119.621328) continuing in sycamore, ranging from ~5 to 15 m up (maybe half the tree's height). Initially found based on soft pipping sound.

I actually heard the bird several times throughout my visit, ranging from that location north along the creek to approx (34.43587, -119.62014), but the call is so soft that I always thought it was still far away in the next stand of trees. When I finally saw the bird I realized that I might have already been very close to it without realizing it. The very soft recording here was taken with my cell phone while I watched the bird from ~ 10 m away."

- Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S210060863

Green on crown and back, dark gray or blackish on wings with two sharp wing bars, gray in face and armpits, clean white below including in undertail coverts except for a smudgy series of chestnut streaks along side. Maybe a faint whitish eyering but hard to make out. Remiges dark grayish above and light grayish below. Some dark streaking through the green on back but not on crown.

Initially seen overhead in sycamores, eventually came down to the edge of the water, so really satisfying looks at both the dorsal and ventral sides, although light already fading. Heard a single chip note while watching it, sweet and downslurred like a yellow warbler but slightly different, maybe "rounder?""
