As opposed to a snow day. I had more passerine species on the snow day 2 weeks ago! The Main focus actually was open water areas and waterfowl. I am enjoying the
Ohio River. We couldn’t refind the scoters this morning, but I am sure still in the area.
There’s quite a few nooks where ducks will feed on the Ohio down here in Hamilton
County. I finally looked up why the Ohio river is such a weird boundary with
Kentucky. Most of the river is Kentucky. Anyway, the boundary is the low water mark
On the north side as it was in 1792. It has been the subject of legal battles - and
Rulings have favored Ohio, but the boundary remains stuck. Hmmm…. Just doesn’t
Seem right. Whatever…..
Lake Barber is still half open water. But I had much less than yesterday. No idea why.
No Canvasbacks this afternoon. I had 5 yesterday. Etc. Birds move!
Meldahl Dam in Clermont was nice! Lots of gulls! I finally picked up Herring for
Kentucky. That actually worked in my favor - most of the river is Kentucky. I couldn’t
Refind the Peregrines. Again, birds move…..
Good birding all.
