The Hartford County Big January challenge continues! There are lots of birders out seeking birds in Hartford County. I've run into many folks at many locations, with folks sharing sightings. Thanks for helping each other! It was fun to "get" the Monk parakeets in New Britain yesterday and run into other birders doing the same. Beautiful little birds. And many people have been to Reservoir 6 in West Hartford for the pink footed goose, a ruddy duck, and a female scaup. But that goose continues to elude me... Tell me, is someone alerting the goose? Quick, fly away! she's coming!!! I've missed it at Res 6 twice by less than 20 minutes, and it is just plain not in that giant flock at Meadowood when I've spent long minutes scanning every single goose, including this afternoon in the snow. Yet other people are seeing it right away from the road. OK, who is warning the goose? Ah well, it is lovely to be outside!
Remember that the details for the Big January competition are on the Hartford Audubon website, and you do not need to be a member or a resident of Hartford County to participate. We hope to send out many certificates when the month is over.
Keep up the birding, and remember to enter your sightings into eBird!
