Hi MoBirders,

Like many of you, I’m feeding the birds right now but keeping tabs on the H5N1 Avian Flu situation. Does anyone have a link to share about keeping our feeding stations clean and sanitized in this bitter cold?

I wear a KN95 mask and gloves when I go out to clean off our ‘Grab ’n Go’ table and we clean the feeders with a 10% bleach solution as we do to prevent conjunctivitis. I also use an anti-viral spray on the table and let it dry before adding any more seed.

We dump the bird bath water every evening and put fresh water in it the next morning, sometimes with hydrogen peroxide. I’m going to start adding that every morning.

I found this page that is helpful:

I also checked the USDA website and there has only been one report in Missouri of a Canada Goose mortality with confirmed H5N1 disease.
