I only hit Warren county, as I don’t know Clinton well enough to go exploring. Yet.
I was told Cowan lake is frozen. The way this weather is going….. it’s going to be
Awhile before a thaw! Caesar creek is completely open. The lake. Unplowed roads
In the park were bad. And will get worse with the freeze up…… I have a basic car.
And was having trouble at the marina, so skipped Harveysburg road when Austin
Posted he found 2 Black Scoters there. There will be others! Now if he had found
A Harlequin let’s say…..! What’s a few hundred dollar tow truck bill……
I chased some birds for the big year. And completely failed…… I picked up a lot,
But common stuff. That’s how I run these. I'll get the common stuff eventually.
Missed today - Greater Scaup, sapsucker, Savannah sparrow, rough legged Hawk,
Harrier?? I still don’t understand why Clinton has plenty of harriers! And none for
Warren! Here’s what I picked up today - Canada goose, red tailed Hawk, starling,
House sparrow, field sparrow, swamp sparrow, ruddy duck, and hooded Merg.
All common stuff. I really need some unusual species!
Up to 45 species for my warren big year. The only new bird for the county - so far -
Is the pipit last week.
The next few days are probably local birding. Lots around! White winged and
Surf scoters! I'll be hitting the Ohio river. I want Black scoter now! That would be
So neat - all three scoters in Hamilton in one winter! And I just heard of a Phoebe
Lingering. Probably not for long now though!
Good birding all.
