Yesterday was sunny, with temp rising (55F at 1:52) and low wind. I made a trip to north shore of Beaver Lake and checked lake from usual spots: Slate Gap at old Glade, Lost Bridge South park, Lost Bridge North park and several observation spots at the dam. It was my best day so far this winter on Beaver.
No surprise: Beaver Lake maintains its reputation for Lake No Loons. I found 0 loons.
Nice surpise: best day so far this winter for Common Goldeneye (total = 87 in 4 stops) and Bonaparte’s Gull (96). Best stop for these two was Lost Bridge South park where at least 82 Bonaparte’s Gulls were foraging on small fish chased up by diving Common Goldeneyes (45, at least).
There were 61 Horned Grebes rafting at Slate Gap.
