Head cinnamon-colored with a wide buffy center stripe. At the northern end of the lake where many dabblers congregate. Excellent views but could not get pictures due to the trees near the water's edge. Standing at the sign that has the park hours and says "no motor vehicles", look to the north. Lucy's Warbler (Leiothlypis luciae) (1)
- Reported Jan 15, 2025 12:30 by Eric Culbertson
- 2452–2498 Finney St, Summerland US-CA (34.4188,-119.5946), Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.594592&<ll...>,-119.594592 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S209434343 - Comments: "I was interested in whether the Lucy’s would re appear at the same spot I viewed it yesterday as it seemed like it had a circuit. The bird flew in at 1257 from the slope below Finney Street. It stayed in the same ~25 ft stretch (mid point about here 34.41893° N, 119.59505° W) of mostly baccharis and mustard stalks, mostly mid-slope, north (above) the street until being chased off by OCWA at 1316 at which point it flew east up and over the slope and out of sight. The bird flew back to the same spot above Finney St at 1336 from the direction it had fled earlier. It was probably chased off east once more at 1347. The location the bird frequented is conveniently located between a no parking sign and a wooden retaining wall.
A Gray warbler with unmarked upper parts and underparts that were either white or tinged in a buffy yellow. A bold red brick colored rump patch was easily visible. The buffy color extended through the chin and breast and then along the birds sides and into vent and undertail. The belly was a soft white. The undertail was unmarked and the tail notched. The edges to wing coverts were darker than the rest of the wing but otherwise The upper parts were gray and gray and unmarked. The dark eye was circled in white on an otherwise gray face and head making for somewhat of a contrasting eye ring. I saw a small patch of color in the crown matching the rump color. The bill appeared straight, short and ending in a sharp point. This bird has extensive black matted feathers around the bill from feeding in blooming eucalyptus."
