Subject: [MBBIRDS] Vermilion Flycatcher at College Lake
This morning Gary Kittleson and I saw an adult male VERMILION FLYCATCHER at
College Lake. It was actively flycatching at the southern edge of the
willow patch along Casserly Creek, roughly in the center of the lake in
this area: 36.94652, -121.74604. The best viewing spot to try for this bird
is behind the church, but it could also be seen from the cemetery. Either
way, the bird is very distant from these two viewing spots, and even with a
good scope, it will only appear as a red speck in the bare willows. Earlier
in the morning will probably have the best visibility before the heat
distortion increases as it warms up.
