I can chime in as an eBird reviewer. To my knowledge, there was never a Great Black-backed Gull at Riverlands this week. I reviewed at least one checklist that included a photo of an adult Lesser Black-backed Gull.

If you're on Facebook and a member of the private North American Gulls group, you might be able to find a discussion started in the evening of January 12 about two birds that were purported to be an adult and immature Great Black-backed Gull at Riverlands. However, both birds were clearly Lesser Black-backed Gulls and identified as such.

If anyone is not a member of the group or can't find the discussion and have interest in it, please let me know and I can help share it directly. It provides several pointers on what to look for when distinguishing the two species.

Good birding,
