Date: 1/14/25 3:39 pm From: ned bohman <nbohman...> Subject: NBRC update and Rare Bird Recap Presentation Thursday Evening in Reno
Hello Nevada Birders, The Nevada Bird Records Committee (NBRC) has been busy updating lists and bylaws. However, this update will (hopefully) not be as lengthy as my last one! If you don't feel like continuing to read, this Thursday, 1/16/2025 at 6PM at the Pigeon Head Brewery in Reno, I will be giving an update presentation on the NBRC's activities in 2024. This will also be broadcast to Zoom and recorded for the GBBO YouTube channel.
With the new year, we have added two new members, as Ben Zyla and Frank Fogarty's terms came to an end. Welcome, Brendan Bucy and Kimber Godfrey to the NBRC!
The NBRC has decided to add a few additional species back to the review list after my last update. While we were at it, we figured why not. But in all seriousness, this will be the last revision to the review list for a while. Until someone finds a new species for the state, and it will automatically go on the review list. For now, we are adding Least Flycatcher, Red Phalarope, and American Golden-Plover back. All of these had been removed in the 2015-2018 era, and there have been few sightings since. In addition to being rare in the state, these species can present identification challenges with more common/expected species.
These additions bring the Nevada review list to 142 species. Our state checklist currently stands at 495. With these additions we will be able to better track significant occurrences in the state. You can find the review list, state checklist, all submitted records and their status, and more info about the NBRC at our website: https://www.gbbo.org/nbrc.
Please check out the review list at the above URL, and for all you eBirders, the NBRC really appreciates it when you also submit your sightings of review species to us as well!
Along those lines, we have been working hard to make the NV state checklist as told by eBird match the state total reported on the NBRC website. These updates have all been made, and you can now find all species endorsed by the NBRC on eBird. Recent additions to eBird include Wood Stork, Black Rail, Rivoli's Hummingbird, Olive-backed Pipit, and more!
Thank you to everyone who has submitted to the NBRC, we appreciate your support. I'd also like to thank NBRC members Brendan Bucy, Kimber Godfrey, Paul Hurtado, Rob Lowry, John Mark Simmons, and Ben Sonnenberg for all of their efforts reviewing records, voting on bylaws and procedure changes, and helping get eBird updated with NBRC records.
With everyone's continued support we can keep these databases consistent and accurate.
I hope to see some of you at Pigeon Head on Thursday!
Ned Bohman Secretary, Nevada Bird Records Committee
