Some highlights from an evening of birding the kite flying and surrounding
areas:
- 2,000+ ducks flushed by Osprey aircraft landing in Moffett field, flying
in an endless stream over the bay
- 3 SNOW GEESE and 2 CACKLING GEESE amongst the CANADA GEESE on the golf
course
- a perched adult COOPER'S HAWK perfectly displaying its pale nape and
little black cap (no doubts there!)
- the aforementioned hawk chasing a flock of 60 WESTERN MEADOWLARK (which
also seemed perturbed by the large aircraft)
- a raft of 75 EARED GREBES on salt pond A2W
- side-by-side looks at WESTERN and CLARK's GREBES as well as GREATER and
LESSER SCAUP on A2W
- the beautiful calls of BURROWING OWLS as I watched the sun set and the
full moon rise over the mountains
Shortly before leaving, the three snow geese flew westward overhead. I'm
not sure where they'll end up tomorrow. I'm also not sure if you can
determine when Osprey aircraft will be landing ahead of time, but the sight
of endless streams of ducks flying over the bay and against the mountains
was something I hope to see again soon!
