A beautifully plumaged adult American Goshawk cruised past my house
(about 1.5 miles in from Highway 82) this morning (Jan 12, 2025) at
about 8:15 AM. The white eye-brow and barring on breast was easily seen
to the naked eye. Needless to say, the Mexican Jays and Mourning Doves
disappeared, but Black-throated Sparrows seemed unbothered (not worth
the hawk's time?).
Had perhaps ten Wild Turkey's about 3/4 mile in from Highway a day
or two ago.
Bird numbers seem up a little over the last few days compared to a
few weeks ago. Perhaps it's just the cold weather bringing them to
feeders and water around the house.
