Subject: Rusty Blackbirds
Rusty Blackbirds finally showed up this morning along with 64 Common Grackles. What is still missing are the Song Sparrows, Pine Siskins, and Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers. Yesterday's species count was 30 species and 223 individuals. Since snow fall on Thursday, the birds have consumed 20 pounds of black oil sunflower seeds and 30 pounds of mixed seeds, and a 1 and 1/2 Peanut Delight no melt suet block and probably a 5-gallon bucket of Yaupon berries. They use the bird bath that has a bucket heater to keep the water from freezing. The snow has also provided good viewing and photo opportunities. Our street is still snowed in, so we are not going anywhere anytime soon.
