Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Eastern Phoebe at El Monte
Continuing since found by Mark Dayton in 25 December 2024.

Russ and I found it at Picnic Area 6. It mostly seemed to be up in the oaks bordering the road, but occasionally came over to the picnic area where it would perch briefly in some leafless trees. Some other bird attacked it relentlessly. So it never stayed very long!

There is a dirt parking lot across the street - El Monte Flume Trailhead. Area 6 is directly across from that lot. We walked in at the pedestrian entrance which is right there. El Monte does not open until 9:30 each day, but walk-ins are allowed after sunrise.

A bird does not sing because it has an answer. It sings because it has a song.

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
