On Saturday the 11th, there's a new pair of Orchard Orioles in town--adult male and female--these along Leon Avenue in Nestor. They prefer a semi-blooming coral tree near the east end of Leon, with a couple adjoining white-flowered eucalyptus also used. Between 7:30-8:20 AM the female visited this coral tree twice, the adult male several times, and on one occasion a young male Summer Tanager joined in as well! This makes EIGHT Orchard Orioles present in the county during the first third of January, with a surprising five of these being adult males.
Both Lucy's Warblers present back in mid-December continue today, with one in pink-flowered eucs in a Nestor apartment complex that will remain un-named, but the other continuing in the tipus and oaks along the south side of Howard Lane Park in nearby Otay Mesa. Six Mountain Bluebirds continue at the TRV sod farm, usually in the northeast corner. A new Yellow Warbler at Nestor Park.
