Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Golden Hill - Broad-billed hummingbird - Open invite with suggested wildfire donation
Hello Friends,

First, I hope you and your families are safe from the fires in Los Angeles. My heart goes out to you all. Here is a link to share with friends in need: https://www.lahsa.org/news?article=1014-resources-to-support-those-during-the-l-a-fires

I have a proposal for the birding masses - you can come see my (female) broad-billed hummingbird and check it off your 2025 list - but - I encourage you to donate to one of the following charities for the ongoing emergency situation in Los Angeles. I've asked my neighbors, and they are OK with me opening up my hummingbird feeder garden through the end of January 2025.

I was going to organize a separate GoFundMe - but would rather cut out the middle woman and have you donate directly to charities that need the help ASAP. Here is a suggested list and more are in the above link, please donate what you can - our community needs us!! I gave $100 to the Pasadena Humane Society already myself.

Wildlife Care of Southern California: https://wildlifecareofventura.org/donate-2/

Los Angeles Hummingbird Rescue, see link at top "Support LAHR": https://www.losangeleshummingbirdrescue.org/

BBHU Details: My address is 2536 B Street, San Diego, CA, 92102. I will not be around much to facilitate visitors. Please enjoy the yard, bench, and feeders I have set up. The female broad-billed ranges from my yard most mornings to the large pepper tree at the edge of the alley to the west, also visiting the feeders hanging from the second story of the pink building in the alley. I'll have the eBird reviewers change my private list to a hotspot again, so you all can bird to your heart's content.

Be safe, good birding, and come see my old' broad before she leaves town!

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
