Sometime this fall, I was with a group of birders in Central Oklahoma when someone mentioned that they had yet to observe a white wing dove. I replied, "That's because they are all in my backyard!"
Again, here they are in Central Edmond, hogging the feeders, though I have done my best to discourage them with cages, tiny perches, clinging feeders and even a DIY dove guard. Earlier this morning, I shooed away at least 25. Though not quite as many in raw numbers as starlings in years' past, they are twice as big as a starling so they eat just as much when they gorge themselves.
