This morning I walked up Rattlesnake Canyon as far as the meadow. There was a very cooperative Pacific Wren right at the first creek crossing (c. 1/2 mile up from the trailhead). There were several Canyon Wrens calling along the nicely flowing creek, but alas, no dipper.
I found Fox Sparrows at both ends of the trail. There were three within the first few hundred yards of the trailhead; one was a Thick-billed (massive all gray beak), one was Slate-colored, and one I couldn't figure out. At the meadow were at least 4 Fox Sparrows: a Thick-billed (with an even more massive gray bill), a Sooty, a Slate-colored, and another I wasn't sure of.
These Thick-billed Fox Sparrows seem to have much bigger bills than the ones at Big Pine Mountain.
