Good afternoon, SBBers, On a pretty gorgeous day yesterday, Dan Bloch, myself and 16 birders, whose experience ranged from one week (!) to 15+ years, showed up to see what we could see in the sloughs and trees of the WPCP. We discovered, discussed, viewed, and photographed 29 species plus a couple of gull sp. and some really far, far away scaups. The "one weeker" wanted to see a Great Blue Heron and, darn, if that was not the very first bird seen! Several Common Yellowthroats gave us quite a little flycatching show. "Well, if they are warblers why are they flycatching?" Many European Starlings with Brown-headed Cowbirds and Red-winged Blackbirds, as always, gave us pause to fine tune identification of a flock/cloud of blackish birds. Yellow-rumped Warblers and White-crowned Sparrows spiced up our walk. Delightful surprises of the day were a Belted Kingfisher, a Green Heron, and, at the very end of the walk, a Burrowing Owl lurking in the weeds. My thanks to Dan who kept the eBird list and here it is....... https://ebird.org/checklist/S208559433 Tweet, tweet, Vicki, the other co-leader
