Happy New Year, yet again, Birders!
This is a *REVISED* report for December. I received a late report of a
sighting that wasn’t included in the original data, so have revised this
narrative as well as the data.
We had *1 new species for December*, and 1 new species reported for
November that wasn’t included in November’s report:
A *Yellow Rail* (6), was found during the San Jose CBC on 12/15/2024, by
Steve Rottenborn, along Alviso Slough Trail.
A Pacific Loon (5), was found on 11/24/2024, by Naomi Goodman, at Los Gatos
Creek County Park and Oka Ponds.
The addition of these birds brings us to 291 species at the end of the
year. The average birds for December is 3, and the average total is 287.
Thank you to everyone who birded, and took the time to report birds either
on SBB, eBird, or send emails directly to me.
As a reminder, here is what each rarity code means:
**Rarity Codes:
1 = common, always seen in habitat in season.
2 = fairly common, usually in habitat in season, but missed sometimes.
3 = uncommon, always around, but sometimes you can't find.
4 = rare, occurs yearly in the county, but not always in same places.
5 = very rare, does not occur every year.
6 = casual or vagrant, generally fewer than 10 records.
