Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Louisiana Waterthrush Tuesday update
The Tuesday report on the Louisiana waterthrush Solana Beach is that the bird is still present but is an absolute total stinker. I arrived with several friends around 10:00 a.m. And stayed for 2 and 1/4 hours. While we were there there were at least three or four other birders present as well, off and on, and they were already one or two folks there when we arrived. After we departed, empty-handed, Sally Veach and others arrived. At 1:08 p.m. the bird seemingly flew in through the parking lot calling, and went into the creek bed. They never actually saw the bird, but they did hear it Call multiple times, and Sally had her phone running and it did record it. They ended up staying a total of 80 minutes and never heard it again, and never saw it. So, In at least 4 hours or more of checking today by multiple observers, the bird was never seen as anything better than a shadow, and Only heard to give one call series, which was recorded.
One other observation I had is that the flow of the creek is quite a bit less than it was on Saturday morning, so the spots that I mentioned off the parking lot that had visible flow now no longer do today. The only trickle of real flow I saw was farther up Creek where hard to see into the creek bed. Whether or not this has an effect on where the bird goes and for how long is uncertain. Given that the source of much of the water in the creek is probably excess irrigation water from nearby areas, the flow could theoretically increase at any time, or not.

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
