My field party found a drake Barrow’s goldeneye yesterday during the Troy CBC. It was on the Hudson River just below Lock 1, between Troy and Mechanicville, diving with over 50 common goldeneyes with a smattering of common and hooded mergansers.
Good viewing of the area can be obtained from the Rensselaer County side of the river near the end of River Road. This was only the third occurrence of this species in the 74 years this count has been held.
