Hello,
This morning at Yolo Bypass at about 11:30am on the walking loop (west side) between Parking Lot B and C, nearer C, I got on a black bird “swallowing” around, looking just wrong for a blackbird. Looking closer I noted its blockiness, notched tail, and iridescent navy blue sheening through the black. The male PURPLE MARTIN was super close, and again, blackbird sized.
I had no idea just how rare a winter Purple Martin is. Didn’t even try for a photo.
