Thank you to all who sent in the CBC reports, it's really interesting to compare all the notes!
As one of the Moscow-Pullman count participants, I know a number of us remarked on the lack of robins & waxwings. However, by a week later (this past Friday), here in Pullman I did have a flock of 15 American Robins feeding on my crabapple tree and staging out of nearby huge maples, plus a small flock of 24 Cedar Waxwings hanging out in the tops of said maples. In general though they continue to be scarcer than normal... It's been 45F in Pullman past 2 days, crazy warm weather!
National Weather Service seasonal outlook did call for a milder December, followed by "a cooling trend is favored for the later half of the winter season". So we'll see what happens with snow, and birds...
Also regarding Moscow-Pullman report, we had at least 5 new count participants (maybe more?) on the Pullman side here (not part of UI group), so I want to give those welcome new counters some credit for our results too!
Happy Holidays and winter birding to all, Monique Slipher
