I visited Schell Osage CA a couple of days ago, and was shocked at the number of dead Snow Geese I saw.

There is always a huge raft of them in Atkinson Lake at this time of year, with an occasional mortality.

But on my visit, numerous carcasses were washed against the Atkinson Lake dike road, and others were lying dead in the field to the north.

I didn't count them, but there must have been at least 30 or 40 carcasses.

Unfortunately, the ones in the field are very near a couple of Bald Eagle nests.

I went on to the North Campground and spied a lone Snow Goose swimming in Schell Lake.

It appeared to have blood on its neck and down its breast.
