Look into the Explorama Lodges in Peru, Explorama.com. They have four, ranging from a luxurious one (Ceiba Tops) to a rough and ready research station near the famous ACTS canopy walkway. Now, I have not been there for ten years but did check their website and looks like arrangements are about the same as when my husband and I went with two friends. They picked us up in Iquitos, after a flight from Lima, took us by boat to our first lodge, Explorama. The we moved to the more remote Explornapo and finally to the one near the ACTS walkway. We had arranged for a full-time bird guide as well although we also did some walking around on our own. I felt the costs were very fair for what we got.

(I had been there in the 1980s with a Smithsonian team, when it was *much* more rustic, so was happy to see running water etc. haha.)

Should add we had extraordinary birding - wakened at 1 am by one of the guides at the ACTS station to go out into the forest and watch a male Nocturnal Curassow booming on his display perch (a bird almost never seen on most trips), and two days with a huge antswarm at Explorama, just behind the buildings, with many of the “fancy” obligate antbirds like Hairy-Crested, White-Plumed, Reddish-winged and Black-Spotted Bare-eyes, etc. And much much more.

I also liked their consideration of our safety etc. After our stay, we were returned to Iquitos and into a nice hotel they had arranged. Our last full day we went with another local guide, not affiliated with Explorama, to a white-sand forest for some unique species. The next morning, when we had an early flight, an agent from Explorama turned up and drove us to the airport and stayed until we were boarding the plane, even though they we were no longer officially their responsibility!

(I also spent a summer at Tambopata which was extraordinary but all birding then was on my own, as I was participating in a research project.)
