Subject: [MDBirding] Caroline Loggerhead Shrike
On Dec 7, Jeff Effinger found a Loggerhead Shrike outside of Ridgely, in
Caroline Co. It's been seen yesterday and today on Ninetown Road.
Notably, this bird is color banded and I've already heard back from the
Loggerhead Shrike Working Group after turning in the sighting. The bird
was captive-bred by the Smithsonian Conservation Biology team in VA and
hatched in summer 2024. It was sexed as female and released just outside
of Newburgh, Ontario in August. They are very intrigued by this sighting
since the wintering location of birds nesting in Ontario is largely
unknown.
