Just got back from a lunchtime walk around Corona Hill which was highlighted by a California Thrasher that first appeared bathing in a rain puddle on the north side of the hill below the top. After bathing, the bird spent about 20-25 minutes in the bare lone plum tree drying off in the sun before disappearing into the poison oak thickets. This is about the 8-9th City Record, all coming since 2016 when one was discovered by Joe Scanga at the Clipper Street Community Garden in June of that year and spent at least a year at that location.
This morning during a dawn skywatch from Sunset Reservoir there was a good varied flight of gulls but not much in the way of passerine activity save for a lone northbound RED CROSSBILL.
Wed. afternoon 12/4, there was a SLATE-COLORED JUNCO with Oregon Juncos in the Rhododendron Dell in East Golden Gate Park.
and a 2nd hand report from my wife that a possible Towsend's Solitaire is at Pine Lake Park. Megan said she got good albeit brief looks at a medium sized passerine about hermit thrush/bluebird sized that was all gray with a tiny black bill and may have had wing bars/patches. The bird flew up out of the willows and into the eukes above the lake. If anyone is in that area to confirm that would be great as she has no prior experience with this species.
It may be December but fall migration just doesn't seem to want to quit.
