Winter Wren (Troglodytes hiemalis) (1)

- Camino Corto Open Space and Del Sol Vernal Pool Preserve, Santa Barbara, California

- Comments: "Continuing. Came to get more recordings. More skulky, quiet, and difficult to observe today. Spent about 15 minutes in yesterday's spot without luck, then went to the other side and it took a few minutes before I saw and heard the bird. It only called a few times when I was watching it, but I managed to record 3 of those notes. Compared to yesterday's recordings, I no longer see the doubled lower harmonic, which I think clinches this as Winter. I sent the recording to Ethan Monk, and am awaiting feedback."
Swamp Sparrow (Melospiza georgiana) (1)
- Reported Dec 05, 2024 09:18 by Mark Holmgren
- Cachuma Lake, Storke Flat, Santa Barbara, California

- Comments: "At 34.56526, -119.92448. Previously seen here on 16 and 28 Nov 2024. When in the field today I wondered if there might be more than one Swamp Sparrow here. Once I got home I pulled up my 16 Nov photos to find that that bird had a white throat, unlike the bird today. That photo is at checklist https://ebird.org/checklist/S202709783."
Lucy's Warbler (Leiothlypis luciae) (1)
- Reported Dec 05, 2024 15:30 by Toby Fowler
- UCSB--campus, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.8450041&<ll...>,-119.8450041 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S204574077 - Media: 3 Photos
- Comments: "Presumed continuing bird. In the eastern most Tipu (34.414084, -119.852129), as were most of the warblers. Tiny warbler with a white-eyering against a cream patch on an otherwise blue-grey head and grey-cream body. Short little bill.
Last seen on Nov 25th, I had a sighting on the 16th. I think the first sighting for the season was on the 13th. Attempting to winter I would guess, and because I'm a romantic, I'm believing it is one of the ones that wintered last year, too."
Nashville Warbler (Leiothlypis ruficapilla) (1)
- Reported Dec 05, 2024 15:30 by Toby Fowler
- UCSB--campus, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.8450041&<ll...>,-119.8450041 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S204574077 - Media: 8 Photos
- Comments: "Presumed continuing bird. Spending time in the eastern portion of the lot, being pushed around by the YRWA & maybe a TOWA too. Vibrant yellow, contrasting sharply with a grey head. Thick and full white eyering. White patch by the legs. Feathers around the beak were dark, so I think it must've just been drinking or something.
Assuming this is the bird I saw on Nov 16th that I didn't manage to get a photo of. If so, it is probably the bird spotted on the 14th, sticking around for the winter. Best of luck!"
