We had two Chestnut-backed Chickadees show up in our Deer Park area yard after a summer and fall of fairly significant fire in nearby hills. They didn't stay more than a day, possibly two days, so I'm glad someone is getting to enjoy them more than we did! When we lived on Puget Sound, they lived in our yard all the time and we've missed them, but that is what happens when you move around! Nita Hamilton

I've had 1 or 2 Chestnut-backed Chickadees in my Pullman yard several days over the past week, and was kind of expecting them, as my neighbors 2 blocks away have had them at their feeder for several weeks now... I'm curious if folks in other low elevation or urban/suburban areas are seeing them also? Ebird flags them as rare here since we don't usually get them on the Palouse... I'm used to seeing them out in the Idaho forests, eg around Lake Coeur d'Alene. Monique Slipher

I've had regular CBCH since early August in Moscow. Two are now daily at my feeders in Univ Heights, south of the UI campus and east of the Arb.

I live in Republic, WA. A good friend of mine had one at her house last week. She?s never seen one at her location previously. I?ve been keeping an eye out, but no luck yet. A mutual friend in the area says they?re unusual here. He?s only seen one once, in his decades of birding in Ferry County.
