On Monday, Nov. 18, I checked out the report of a Black-and-White Warbler in the Carpinteria Tams next to the skate park. I checked the tams from both sides very thoroughly and could not turn up the B&W Warbler; however, I found a very confiding Black-throated Gray Warbler on the golf course side of the tams. There was also a Chestnut-backed Chickadee in the tams, and at least two more in the row of Eucalyptus behind the skate park.
On Tuesday, I checked out the Ortega Ridge Pines to see if there were any Nuthatches present but found none, nor much of anything else.
On Wednesday, I birded Refugio Road along Quiota Creek. It was fairly birdy until the wind came up around 10 o'clock and once again , I found at least 2 Steller's Jays well down the road where there are multiple bridges. The highlight of walking here was the fabulous fall color from Cottonwoods, Sycamores, Big-leaf Maple, and the remaining poison oak.
This morning, I walked Kinevan Road, which was pretty quiet except for Ruby-crowned Kinglets and a fair number of Hermit Thrushes. However, I did turn up one VARIED THRUSH in the trees along the road between the houses. The Big-leaf Maple trees along the creek are at their prime.
