Subject: [cayugabirds-l] Refuge Sandhills still worth searching for
Folks I actually believe a visit to the Refuge for cranes will be
worthwhile into the month of December. As the years unfold we are getting
increasingly larger numbers of sandhills each fall (I remember being
overjoyed about 6 years ago when a flock of 75 decended upon Knox Marcellus
Marsh!).
I suspect the "word" has being traveling throughout Crane Nation that
Montezuma is a safe place to rest and refuel. Hence the larger numbers of
birds with each passing year.
P.S. once here, locating them can be a challenge (visitor center, Knox
Marcellus, surrounding fields are good places to start). I'm told that Knox
Marcellus around sunrise is sometimes productive.
Good luck a happy "hunting"!
