Totally agree about missing all the short personal stories, reports and updates.
A week ago saw 500-600 snow geese off Gage Road platform in Dead Creek WMA. Went with three women who are not experienced birders.
Thanks to Chuck Richardson for being an ambassador for WMA and sharing his knowledge of area trails. And a Skilled birder named Hank-perhaps of Charlotte- who shared his scope and knowledge about the geese.
It was magical and a happening.
Now waiting to put up feeders next week. Kay in Hinesburg

4 male cardinals at the feeder today; so what if my friend in East Texas has 17 on a regular basis.
I had a pileated drop in; he probably has an ivory-billed!
Reminds me of the old joke where the Texas rancher is telling the VT farmer that he could drive all day and not get to the other side of his ranch. And the VT farmer says "Yup, I had a car like that once too,"

I think it’s part of the “social media” craze - which is often not all that social. Posting photos of one’s half-eaten slice of pizza counts as “connecting” on many social media sites! Perhaps actually writing a note, even an e-mail, is going the way of snail mail.

It has also given me a sense of the VT birding community. I don't do facebook and eBird accomplishes a different purpose. I guess this is one more example of change---for the better, I am not so sure.
