Tropical Kingbird (Tyrannus melancholicus) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Nov 17, 2024 07:55 by Nick & Jane
- Laguna Lake, San Luis Obispo, California

- Comments: "Kingbird with a large black bill and trilly call. I was on the eastern side of gazebo area woods inspecting a passerine flock when I heard the trilly call of a Tropical Kingbird. It was in the pines agitating or being agitated by a Cassin’s Kingbird. Finally it flew out to a roadside tree, where a passing birder saw it. I mentioned it was a Tropical Kingbird because of its trill call. It then flew to a tree near the first dock, then back to the roadside tree and soon moved onto a lower branch in the back of the tree. I believe it flew back to the pines at one point and moved back to the roadside tree. The bird had a large black bill, bright lemony yellow tum and yellow-green chest. Its chin was white, tail forked, and had a green back. The bird was rather skittish. Photos and also a recording of Cassin’s vs. Tropical while battling in pines."

First had the brightest bird at NE and N corner of the park for a while then briefly ran into the very dull bird for a split second on the east side, and then saw the intermediately bright bird with the yellow mostly concentrated on face at the main entrance on the north side. At least one heard chipping on/off throughout morning. The brightest bird was the only one that cooperated for pics."
