The Waconda Christmas Count is scheduled for Sunday, December 22nd. The Waconda Count is not usually on a weekend day, so this may be an opportunity for people who do not normally participate to come this year. I usually wait to schedule the count until most counts are scheduled and try to avoid as many conflicts as possible. That usually means it is on a week day.
If you are interested in participating in the Waconda Count, please contact me for information. Waconda Lake is right in the middle of the count circle, but the circle also includes public wildlife areas, small creeks and riparian areas, native prairie, and agricultural fields. The entire count circle is in Mitchell County. This may be the Kansas count that is most likely to turn up a Snow Bunting.
