California Condor (Gymnogyps californianus) (2)
- Reported Nov 16, 2024 12:20 by Linus Blomqvist
- Ballinger Canyon, Santa Barbara, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-119.4829702&<ll...>,-119.4829702 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S202699675 - Comments: "Barn door sized raptors, pronounced primaries, mostly black with some white underneath. Poor photos. Seen from within Santa Barbara County but I'm not sure which county they were in. I was three miles from the Ventura County line and the birds were distant, but not sure if they were within SBA or not."

Sagebrush Sparrow (Artemisiospiza nevadensis) (1)
- Reported Nov 16, 2024 11:18 by Linus Blomqvist

- Comments: "Mamma mia! I was hoping to find one among the canescens out here, but didn’t think it would actually work. A lot like a canescens Bell’s, but with a very indistinct malar (nearly completely absent) and distinctly streaked back. Guess that pigment from the malar had to go somewhere. This bird immediately jumped out to me as different from the nearly 100 canescens I had seen today, and is the only bird that prompted me to pull my camera out all day. The field marks are very consistent with other records of wintering Sagebrush in socal deserts. I originally saw what was likely this bird about an hour in, but when I pulled my camera out I couldn’t refind it. I brought Linus back to this spot, and luckily I spotted it and we were both able to get great looks and many photos. I never heard this individual call or sing, though the Bell’s Sparrows nearby would call incessantly and sing occasionally"
