If I were fortunate enough to be in that region of South Carolina at that time of the year, I would definitely make an effort to see a few species that are somewhat specialized to the Southeast U.S. — Painted Bunting, Brown-headed Nuthatch, Red-cockaded Woodpecker, and Bachman’s Sparrow. (The Bunting and the Sparrow should both be singing at that time of the year.). The Painted Bunting and the Brown-headed Nuthatch should be fairly straightforward; the Woodpecker and the Sparrow might require driving inland about half an hour. Sounds like a great trip!
