Yesterday I spent some time in the afternoon poking around the west side of Lake Merced. (2) GREATER WHITE-FRONTED Geese and a lone (ALEUTIAN) CACKLING Goose were associating with two different groups of Canada Geese on the grounds of Harding Park Golf Course. Public access at the golf course is limited to the grounds around the clubhouse, the entrance driveway and the multi use path which connects Lake Merced Park (the Boathouse area) with Sunset Circle (Wooden Bridge Area) so please bird accordingly.
A single BONAPARTE'S GULL came in briefly to bathe in the lake.
A WILSON'S WARBLER was associated with the warbler/kinglet/bushtit flock along the south side of entrance drive from Skyline in the Albizias (MIMOSAS!) and Willows where other rare warblers have wintered in years past. This bird is undoubtedly attempting to winter here and should be looked for on the CBC.
On 11/14 I checked the Stanyan trailhead up to Mount Sutro and at least two RUFOUS/ALLEN'S Hummingbirds continued there in the Abutilon patch that's filling in the cleared area of eucalyptus. A healthy insectivore flock at this spot came in to pishing as well : (10-15+) Ruby-crowned Kinglets, (10+) Townsend's/(8-10) Audubon's/(2) Orange-crowned Warblers and a couple of House Wrens. This area has had interesting winter warblers in the past as well; last year a Nashville frequented the spot.
