Hello Iowa Birders,

All Christmas Bird Counts must be conducted during the period from December 14th to January 5th . It is the compilers job to post the count date and submit the count totals to the IOU and the National Audubon Society. Birders can go to the IOU CBC page to learn about counts being conducted in their area and how to contact the local compiler in order to participate. All observer data must be submitted in a timely manner to the local compiler.
The IOU CBC page also has the forms to submit for effort data, bird numbers, and a details form for the more unusual birds winter birds requiring them. The IOU makes an effort to stay current with the American Ornithological Society changes in taxonomy. Some minor changes were made to the species list form, including requests for details, so to the IOU CBC page to find the v. 2024.

Last year 54 CBCs were conducted around the state and a record 154 bird species were discovered. So get out there-the birds are waiting!
